Pfleger is unquestionably one of the most fascinating baroque masters of Northern Europe of the seventeenth-century. Embodiying the transition between Schütz and the heritage of Monteverdi on one side, and the music of Buxtehude and later Bach on the other, Pfleger’s music testifies to the musical culture of Northern Europe. Orkester Nord here proposes for the first time a full-length programme set up as one coherent dramatic work, connecting Pfleger’s key cantatas in order to form a continuous narrative, as told through the voices of its recurring protagonists. What emerges is the story of the life of Christ. A fascinating soundscape.

Pfleger est incontestablement l’un des maîtres de l’Europe du Nord les plus fascinants du XVIIe siècle. Pont entre Schütz et Monteverdi, Buxtehude et Bach, sa musique est un témoignage précieux des pratiques du nord de l’Europe. À partir de ses cantates sacrées, Martin Wåhlberg propose un programme construit comme un tout dramatique centré autour du récit de la vie et la Passion du Christ.
Avec une orchestration rappelant le paysage sonore de la Scandinavie baroque, avec violes ou psaltérion, aujourd’hui oubliés, le chef brosse un portrait sonore inouï, absolument captivant, au milieu duquel trône un Jésus nordique à la voix hors-norme, lien entre le réel et l’au-delà.
